Silhouette
A silhouette simply put is the shape of the dress you choose.
While anyone can wear any silhouette certain dress shapes provide different effects which may appeal to different people.
A-Line
This style is characterized by a form fitting bodice that gradually widens from the waist to the hem. This creates a beautiful shape that emphasizes the bust and waist and balances the hips
Ballgown
This style is best known for its dramatic bell shaped skirt and nipped waist. This silhouette is perfect for making an entrance and balancing wider torsos.
Column/Sheath
This style dress lacks alot of the defined shape seen in other dresses but can be just as beautiful. It is important to avoid buying a column/sheath dress if what you really want is a close fitting mermaid or trumpet style. Otherwise you’ll end up with very expensive alterations.
Dropped Waist
Dropped waist dresses are often associated with the roaring 20’s but this eye-catching silhouette can be a fun way to show off the long lines of your body. If you want a unique shape that will add length to your torso, a dropped waist is for you.
Empire Waist
Bridgeton fans will be familiar with this next silhouette. Empire waist dresses are characterized by their sky-high waistlines. This style of dress is wonderful at creating the illusion of a smaller waist since it draws the eye to the area directly under the bust.
Trumpet
This style is defined by a tight-fitting bodice and skirt that flares out at the mid-thigh. This style is perfect for showing off your natural curves.
Mermaid
This style is defined by a tight-fitting bodice and skirt that flares out at or below the knee, which may make walking more difficult. This style is perfect for showing off your natural curves.
